Gyōda, Saitama

Gyōda is a city in Saitama prefecture that serves as a nice day trip or half day trip from Tokyo. From tokyo station it takes just over 1 hour to reach Kumagaya station direct on the Takasaki line. From there to get to the castle, switch to the Chichibu Railway and ride the train for three stops. Please be warned the Chichibu Railway is often delayed, cancelled or has reduced service. In this case you can take the train to Gyōda station and take a bus from the station. It will drop you off around an 7 or 8 minute walk from the castle. You can ask the bus driver which stop you should get off at. If you get off at Gyōda station , there are also bicycles available to rent from a small tourist information center. A Guide To Swimming at Shinjuku Sports Center

Shinjuku Sports Center is in the middle of Toyama Park ( Not to be confused with Shinjuku Cosmic Center) I had a little trouble finding the entrance but there is a convenience store on one side of the building then a bike park, and the entrance is just around the corner. The closest stations are Nishi-Waseda and Takadanobaba. It is about 5 minutes from Nishi-Waseda and 15 minutes from Takadanobaba. Once you enter the building there is a small shop in the hall then an information counter with a ticket machine next to it. You can ask the staff for help, they speak English. The tickets cost 400 Yen and allows you to use the facilities for 2 hours 30 minutes. You show the ticket to the attendant and then keep it for your exit. Then you go to the changing rooms, men on the left, women on the right. Take off your shoes before entering. Day Trip to Mount Fuji (Winter)

Last month I took a unforgettable day trip to Mount Fuji with JTB Sunrise Tours. Our chosen meeting point was the Keio Plaza Hotel so that was where we met with our guide and hopped on the coach. JTB have an office at the hotel where many of their tours start. Although we had a full-sized coach there were only around 15 guests on the bus. Our guide was great and gave us an introduction for our tour as we headed towards our first stop. The journey was around an hour and half till we got to a visitors centre where we caught our first glimpse of the Mountain. First view of Fuji There was also a man playing some traditional Japanese music which added to the atmosphere of being close to one of the most incredible views in the world! A quick bus ride away and we made it to the 4th Station. Sometimes its possible to get to the 5th Station but the snow was too heavy for us to make it up there on the day we visited.
